Special case: automation software
For both types of software, it is possible in some cases to connect the eCommerce system to an SMS gateway via an automation platform.
Common platforms are Zapier, IFTTT or Make, for example.
Here you can usually specify a trigger and a subsequent action.
An example in Zapier: you choose the receipt of an order in Magento as a trigger. You choose sending an SMS via seven as the action. If you have connected both services in Zapier, Zapier will trigger the sending of an SMS via seven when an order is received on your Magento platform. If you have set this flow, it will be executed automatically until you disable it.
This flow is the same in its basic features on popular automation platforms, and in most cases you can set multiple triggers as well as actions. Nonetheless, setting up messages through this alternative way is a bit more complex than in the store systems themselves.
Even though automation platforms are a great way to automate flexible and diverse processes, keep the following points in mind:
- Additional vendor, additional risks
Having an additional party involved in your operations also means that there may be issues at an additional point.
Check what requirements you need to meet and make sure the automation platform meets them as well.
- Additional costs
Some automation platforms are free up to a certain level of usage, while others are not. Check your options.
